Default Info center light bulb replacement

The light for my information center (mpg, miles left, etc) above the rear view mirror burned out. How do you replace it?

take the dash meter board off with dealer spec tool and change the bulb .they have 4 kind of bulb from the dealer only .
if you take steering wheel off the srs light will on becareful.
i use to turn the wheel that can just slide out .
if you put back some meter not working ,just take off again and redo again .this should work.

Thanks BBS138, however, it sounds like you are describing a job for the dash...my info center is ABOVE THE MIRROR at the front of the roof.

I can't figure out how to open the case to get to the display ckt board. Unless anyone has experience fixing this problem, looks like the dealership is going to get some big bucks.

Are you refering to the 'trip computer'?
The whole dome light assembly must be removed to access this and I don't recall any serviceable bulbs.
There was a recall on the early models. I R&Red a great deal of them.

Well, I finally had to bring the ML in to the dealer for another unrelated, but expensive fix that I didn't have time for, and they want $800 to replace this trip computer.
Anyone know where I can get a cheaper board? Think about it...I can buy a laptop that will do my taxes for less than that! All this thing does is show the date, miles traveled, dtg on the tank and gas mileage.

I would do a google search for Mercedes OEM parts - I am sure you will find a reseller of parts and perhaps get them to help you with the install. I hear you about these dealers making a bank on small things - I wanted my dash board (I know yours is different) - but to get the dash board light bulb changed - $350.00 (the bulb costs $24 on websites) - go figure!

I finally found a guy selling these trip computers on ebay for about a $100, but the dang computer was off by a couple numbers. My 1998 ML 430 computer was a A163 540 05 11 and the computer I bought on line is a A163 540 52 11. I thought nothing of it, fit perfect and the wiring harness plugged right in. I noticed the menu was in a little bit different order and it offered mult languages. But otherwise everything worked great, until the alarm started going off at random times throughout the day and night. Must be a slight incompatibility between the two parts. Since then, I've yanked the new one out and put my old one with the bad LED back in. Anyone have a source for a A163 540 05 11 trip computer that won't cost me a limb?
