300D cost of tumbler: 40 or 300

thanks, the key is not stuck or lost.
I am not sure I could do that. maybe... Also I can still turn the key. The tech feels he can do it now or $300 and 1 hour or later if it's stuck for $300 and 4 hours. I would not mind doing it now if it's just the tumbler ($40) and 1 hour...
The lock is slightly loose and the key needs a little fiddling but still works. What would I need to do in that case.
How can I determine if I need the tumbler only or the whole assembly?
I tried wd-40, not graphite dust.

wd 40 was a poor choice. if it was your last attempt alright. but from now on any grease, dirt on your key will now become traped within the assembly. i would, with the battery disconnected, run some electrical contact cleaner thru it to try and flush the wd 40 out. the contact cleaner evaporates fast and leaves no harmfull residue.
i would pull the assembly and bring it to your local crusty old locksmith who has been in business for 50 years. have him take a look. i had my local locksmith hand file me a double sided ignition key for just a few dollars. thier rates are always very very reasonable
