Default 190 E Tumbler Need Help

Hello all: I am in the process of replacing the tumbler on my daughters 93 model 190E and I am having a terrible time, in other words a 3 lb hammer comes to mind but I walk away a while. I have read several post on tumbler removal and they are very informative. This is what I am doing: I have used wires, paper clips and sizes from 1 to 1.5 mm to slide in the No. 2 slot, they go in approximately 1 inch. I cannot remove the outer shell or holder of the tumbler by turning ccw or pulling it out or anything. I have 2 holes 180 Deg. apart on the tumbler I am inserting the wires. You can wiggle the tumbler holder back and forth about a 1/16" either way but it will not come off. I have tried pliers, visecrips, but I am only chewing the black paint off. ANY HELP or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated plus keep me from using a 3 lb hammer on the thing. Thanks a million

welcome.

maybe your tool is not of correct size? (the wire i mean)

it is really difficult to pull that out esp if the catch inside is broken. sometimes your blood pressure comes up first before the lock does.

Sleepwalker: Thanks, Couple of other things, does the collar thread off the tumbler or does the Tumbler and all come off at the same time. I guess what I am saying is how is the proper way too remove it. Pull, twist, does the tumbler and collar all come off in a unit. Is there anything I should feel for. Again Thank you very much.

Sleepwalker: these pics come in very handy. I also have a problem with tumbler on my 450SLC, the flap that covers the opening is stuck in the open positio. I took a pick with a 90 degree angle and got it half way closed, but as soon as I inserted the key and removed it the flap stayed openb. I know they are spring loaded and in the past I have had this happen on various cars, and something I got lucky with a piece of wire or pick, but this time it seems as if it is out of a mount, or something inside that hold it vertical to the opeing?

Any suggestion PLEASE!

does the collar thread off the tumbler or does the Tumbler and all come off at the same time.
the collar first because it serves as the retainer for the barrel.

how is the proper way too remove it

flap that covers the opening is stuck in the open position
yes there is a spring inside.

the only reason that it cannot go back is because it touches something. the spring tension is not strong enough to bypass the obstruction.

have you tried spraying a bit of WD40 on it?

The 190 tumblers are a common problem as they get older.
