Default Strange question about car alarm on 97e320

Other than the noise, does it do anything else ?
Like cutoff the fuel, starter or ignition, or some other function ?
The owners' manual only says it makes noise.
Reason I need to know this is because insurance company sent me a questionnaire asking what the alarm does.
They also ask if there is a steel collar covering the steering column and if the ID number is etched into all windows of the vehicle.
My car is a US delivered E 320 1997 I believe is body model 210.
Any help will be appreciated to keep the insurance costs down.

Why don't you test it ?
Press the LOCK button from the outside of the vehicle, then try opening the door using the key. and try starting the engine.

yes, trying it is the best way.

you can also open 1 window, and lock the car, wait 2 minutes and open it from inside.

the engine control unit is disabled, no fuel, starter or ignition. cannot shift the transmission lever.

all plastic (cover) on the steering column.

USA version got VIN etched which is visible from front left side of windshield. later model it all have... all versions.
