Auto Gear Change while on the move

Auto Gear Change while on the move
Hi,
Is there no mechanism of preventing a gear change from drive to reverse while the car is moving. I notice that it is possible to do this or does my 1999 c200 have a problem. If not what would the effect be at higher speed? Technically I think it could be a potentially dangerous situation.
Anyone in the know?

RE: Auto Gear Change while on the move
All new cars with automatic transmission have a mechanism to prevent the gear to go in R while in forward motion. Yes, even if you have pressed that button on the shifter.
I have tested it on a 97 Camry. I have tested it on 95 Accord. I have tested it on my 99 280.
I can't speak for Detroit cars because they have cut so many corners and I have no interest in them.
Of course, do not attempt this on a manual gear box.
