Auto Gear Change while on the move
Hi,
Is there no mechanism of preventing a gear change from drive to reverse while the car is moving. I notice that it is possible to do this or does my 1999 c200 have a problem. If not what would the effect be at higher speed? Technically I think it could be a potentially dangerous situation. Anyone in the know? |

RE: Auto Gear Change while on the move
All new cars with automatic transmission have a mechanism to prevent the gear to go in R while in forward motion. Yes, even if you have pressed that button on the shifter.
I have tested it on a 97 Camry. I have tested it on 95 Accord. I have tested it on my 99 280. I can't speak for Detroit cars because they have cut so many corners and I have no interest in them. Of course, do not attempt this on a manual gear box. |

Thanks. Thats nice to know.

my wording was not precise.
actually the shifter stick will go into R. but the gear will not engage to reverse if the car is in forward motion. |
RE: Auto Gear Change while on the move
Thats OK. I presume that saftey measure comes on only while the car is moving above a certain speed. Not when it is just rolling slowly ...
