Default Auto Gearbox Vibration when stationary

I have a 1998 SLK230 Auto. Transmission is very smooth when driving, but lots of vibration whenstationary with the car in gear(particularly in reverse). Feels like it really wants to pull away. Any suggestions?

Please try to explain more fully.

Have you had the exhaust and gearbox mountings checked? Broken, loose, touching.

check for a missing grommet in the shift linkage.Without the bushingin there, it's metal on metal with a lot of space for vibration. very annoying anda common problem. That is the cheapest thing that can be wrong. Hard to replace, do to the space involved. there is a heat shield in the way. for me it was a one hand fix. Putting the retaining clip back on one handed can be the most difficult part of the job, unless u put a nail into the clip to keep it open until it's in-place, then pull the nail and presto. Hopefully that's all it is. Good luck

My moneys on the engine mounts.

The gear linkage bush shows up also as gears not always being selected amnually and stick can be rocked thru the play.
