Default Auto Gearbox - intermittent fault

I drive an E 220CDi auto with 175,000 miles on the clock. The auto box works really well, changing smoothly etc. However from time to time when changing up from 2nd - 3rd gear under load, it goes into neutral and doesn't know what to do with itself. It sometimes sorts itself out, other times I need to restart the car which always sorts it out, so i'm guessing an electrical glitch?

I read somewhere it might be a dirty kick-down switch?

Would value some shared wisdom!

Regards

Richard
