I just purchased a 2003 SL-500 (with only 21K miles). It is a great car and I am already in love with it. I do have a wild question for the open group. My wife has a 2006 CLS500 with the KeylessGo. The system on her car is part of the Key-Fob (i.e. the FOB has the normal remote functions - but also has the KeylessGo logic internally). On my SL500 the Keyless Go is a separate "Smart Card" - there is also a FOB - but it only does the remote fuctions. I was wondering if one could purchase a newer/integrated KeylessGo FOB (like my wife's) and program it to work with the older systems - like what is in my 2003 SL-500.
Any thoughts or comments. The dealership does not even want to "discuss" this - but I think it would be interesting.

 

you can't. your model must be 2002 and not 2003.

earlier than 2003 uses keyless-go transmitter card only while the later uses the key with integrated transponder.

 

OK a bit confused by the response. I have a 2003 - it has the SmartCard - Not certain when it changed to the integrated key design (at least by 2006). However from the 5000 foot view - the general logic is still the same - a command/response from the car to the Keyless unit (this general methodology is independent of whether it is the SmartCard or the SmartKey design - IMHO). So unless there is something radically different in the query/response strings - I would still think that it is a "programming" thing.
So let me ask the question differently - does anyone know "why" the SmartKey could not be "programmed" into a SmartCard based system? Is there something different in the query/response codes - or different frequencies - or ????. The dealership will not "explain" why they won't entertain the idea (kinda like your Mom telling you not to do something - just because she says so )
Anyway given my engineering background - I am trying to learn WHY or WHY NOT.

on your model, the keyless-go card is considered as separate key.

you got 5 key line with 8 rails.

it means that you can have as much as 40 keys at the same time.

line 4 and 5 is reserved as card key, but i can as well reprogram it to line 1 or 2 on different track or rail.

on newer model, the single key occupies the same track line and considered as one.

what's your VIN anyway? can please tell me so i can confirm?

OK so would it be possible to program the All-In-One FOB into two different pathes (example - Line 1 for the FOB and also in Line 4 for the SmartCard)?

Is there somewhere I can read about this logic and how it plays? Is there a program or tool I can get to "play" with my car (I take responsibility that if I break it I have to pay ).
