Default Keyless Entry

I've a '94 C280. It did not have keyless entry when I purchased the car. Is the car already set up for use with a keyless entry system or would it have to be installed. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Keyless Entry

I bought a keyless entry kit for $50 from my local electronics store. The circuit diagramprovided had an option for Mercedes, BMW etc. but it was uesless and totally wrong for my '94 C180. I had to work things out for myself but eventually did it.

I wiredthe circuit box to the central locking pump in the boot (trunk) and was able to store it in the same sponge container in the RH wheel well. This meant I didn't have to remove the panel from the driver's door (as I had done with previous cars). I can't recall the colours, but there are 2 trigger wires in the plug to the central locking pump - one to lock, one to unlock. To activate them, they need to go to "earth/ground" for a second or two.

I was able to get the electronic unit to do this when pressing the unlock and lock buttons on the tag. Wired it up and it works perfectly. And you don't have to point the key at the lock as you do with the Mercedes infrared system. It works from 20-30 metres away.

i was wondering if the same type of wiring would work on a 1986 230E? Also that ping noiseis not really brought on by the exhaust. i heard it was moreof a timing / electrical thing.

Thanx

I'm pretty sure it would be much the same, except the pump is under the rear seat, not in the boot.

My 230E had had remote entry fitted before I bought it, and they had placed a solenoid in the drivers door, to pull the lock button down. Works fine but off course doesn't directly act on the vacuum pump (which simply responds when the lock button moves).

I found the "direct" method I used on my C180 better (esp. as I didn't have to disassemble the driver's door). The kit I bought was very "flexible" including options to send a +12v pulse, or ground pulse, plus timing options.

Re the ticking noise on acceleration, I'm fairly certain it's not the same pinging you get from incorrect timing. It has a different sound. But I guess it could still be something to do with the engine management unit. Will eventually have to get it to a dealer so they can do some diagnostics.

Cheers...

Default RE: Keyless Entry

I have a '94 C 280 and would like to install keyless entry, it would be ideal if i could hook it up entirely in the trunk. Does anyone know what wires i would need to use? or if this is even possible?
