380SL door check replacement
Trying to replace the door check on my 82 380SL. Any secrets or danger points to watch out for? I've never removed a window regulator before, but I'm pretty certain it has to come out for this job.

Dear Forced,
Thanks for the reply; however: one 5mm fh allen bolt on front edge of door (under the weather seal,) one 5mm socket head bolt on inside of door (under trim panel.) Door check mechanism still won't come out from inside the door. By loosening the regulator and painfully contorting my left hand and arm I was able to get the old mechanism out (broken and without the arm,) but there is no apparent way to get the replacement in position to bolt it in. Or am I missing something?

Success at last! After much contorting, flexing of the regulator, some skinned knuckles, and a few choice words I got it together. The immediate causes of my success were: disconnect the window from the regulator and raise it. Unbolt the bottom end of the front window guide and push it out of the way, fight with the regulator to get it farther back in the door so that the window motor is out of the way. As they say, "assembly is the reverse of disassembly."
I am finding myself in the same boat now. Sorry to reply to an old thread but I am looking for some ideas to remove the pin holding the strap to the car. I used WD40 and Liquid Wrench and have been hitting my draft with a large hammer but it is not moving. Any ideas would be helpful. Is cutting it out with a cutting disk going to cause any damage? I have a 1985 380sl
