Window problem
Does any one have a similiar problem to this
Window seems not to stop at the place it should i have to bring it slightly back down or it overshoots the rubber and unless I get it dead right there is a draught
surely it should stop exactly right
Also when putting roof back up nearside window failed to go back down first and roof had to close on top of it- pannicky moment
and when eventually we got it to work there was a noise as if something dropped off inside the door and fell to the bottom could this have been a stop of some sort?
any ideas?

Yes. I have the same problem on my 99 SLK 230. The drivers window goes up too far. When I had it in shop for other repairs the mechanic noticed it and began to investigate (without my knowledge or permission). he reported that it was indeed a stop that had worn out and that he did not have the part but if I wanted to fix it he would order the part. The cost ( part and labor) was ridiculous so I decided that all I have to do is draw a horizontal line with a sharpie on the inside of the window as my mark, and always stop it there. Works fine, top up or down.
There are two ˝stoppers˝ glued to each window. I think that your upper stopper fell off. You can check it by yourself, it will take approx. 20,30 minutes to carefully remove carpet and look inside the door. If you will not glue it back (you can`t go wrong, because there is still visible where it was originally glued), it might fall under the mechanism that drives the window and you will not be able to low the window anymore. At least it was the case with my car.
the task is really easy ... simply remove door card..2 screws behind handle trim .. 1 behind the "airbag" sign the side plate by latch has to come off and the metal trim at the top..... gently pull doorcard and ease the door away from the poppersthe plastic triangle (top right)comes off by easing it from the very top (narrowest point) then ease the top of the door card out of the full length of the door
disconnect speaker cables and the bowden cable from door lock and move card away
then .. remove the large speaker. at the bottom .. you will find the bracket lying loose in the bottom of the door using interior mirror glue patch replace the the bracket to the window leave window down a short while after which replace door car and fittings
