Transmission slipping on my 92 S500
My transmission is slipping and making a noise when I press the gas pedal that I would describe as a vacuum wind noise. In addition, the engine will rev but the car does not pick up. Am I in need of a new transmission or could this be some other issue?

let try 2 test to find out if ure auto trans is faliure .
1. Take ure dip stick to mesure youre auto trans fluids at max-min level. Plus do check if the colour of youre auto trans changes from red to darker - hence any smell of burnt smell ?
if it does u need to do general overhaul the auto transmission meaning the inside of ure trans burnt out.
2. While youre driving at speed 100km, do you notice youre rpm at 2500-3000 rpm? if it more than 3000rmand doesnt changes gear at long period of time hence youre auto trans needs replacement or repairs.
let us know whats ure results are
cheers

Thank you Rockerfella174 I will follow your advice and let you know the results.
I can tell you now the transmission seems to slip as it goes into third gear. From there the engine revs but the car goes no where. If I press the gas pedal very hard the engine revs to 5 - 6k rpm but again, it goes no where.
I was told the problem is something called a modulator pump. I simply do not know but I am desperately seeking answers.
Again, I will get back to you shortly and thanks for responding.

I suspect a (rebuilt trans) lies in your future. MB sells factory rebuilts with 2 year warranty for about 3K there are people who do it for less but their skill (and warranty) varies. your trans is still the mechanical variety, that was discontinued in 95 when they went electronic.
I would only deal with someone who will do the whole job, there have been horror stories about sending them out, and then charging to remove and re-install when they dont work.
I had mine done at MB and it required the exhaust to be disconnected, amongst other things, new trans mount, new cooler lines, etc etc slightly less thn $6K, I had it serviced because of a "click" when backing up they found nothing. It lurched in reverse and kept on getting worse, front clutch pack, if you dont fry it they dont need to replace the converter. Do not go ADSIT route.
