Default Transmission slipping???

Just bought a 300 TE, and the engine just revs when in gear, but will eventually grab. When it grabs and you start going, the car will slip then grab, slip then grab. Please, any ideas? I really don't want to put a new tranny in it.

If you stop, you have to rev it for a minute and sometimes it will grab.

just repair it as soon as possible.

the clutch disk/plate and oilseals on piston are bad already. those slipping cause it to wear more and more.

all you need are new clutches and overhauling repair kit.

It is an automatic, do they have clutch disk's in them? What kind of time are we looking at here repair wise, and what would a ruff estimate be to have it fixed at a shop?

Thanks for the quick reply

Reverse works fine. Drive is where I have the problem. Almost like it is in neutral, then it catches a little. Any gas pedal, and we aren't moving for a minute.

yes, you have lots of it... clutch lining and contact rings. you also have two brake bands.

i have no idea on charges from your area but from where i am now i can fix your problem for $1k including parts and labor. i charge $30 per hour.

things that you must pay attention:

*teflon ring on piston B2 is damaged.... replace it.
*check the play on B2 and correct it. the spacers (looks like a rod) are available in different lengths.
*check the freedom of movement of shift valve B2 on the valve body. if the movement is hard, clean, repair or replace it.

in other words, the brake band 2 is responsible for your shifting problem.

I think I am going to cry. I got a nice deal on this car and it is in great shape, but the price is just too high for me. Labor is about 65 bucks an hour around here.

but still it better to give an initial check before deciding on anything.

if the transmission oil (ATF) level is low, the transmission will slip too.

if the control cable is wrongly adjusted, it will cause the slip too.

if the vacuum hose to the modulator is disconnected, it will not upshift.

just do initial check first. maybe it's just a small problem.
