Default Engine re-mapping

Hi, hello to all mercedes enthusiasts. I have just joined the forum and would like to hear from any one who has had their engine re-mapped or chipped. I am cinsidering having mine re-mapped. I have an ML280 190BHP 2007 Diesei V6. I have looked at VIEZU tuning, claiming 42BHP and 130NM torque increase, Superchip offering a more modest and more realistic increase of around 38BHP and 78NM torque and Brabus ECO Power Xtra offering around 52BHP and 70NM torque. Have you had any problems with exrta wear and tear on the engine and has this increased your insurance premium?

hi mate,

new to the site myself.......doesnt seem to be a lot of life on here, nobody seems to reply to anything lol,

remaps are a pretty safe option, you get the power gains through having you ecu written onto, you dont have to tell your insurance as it would never get checked,

having your car chipped on the other hand.......you would have to tell your insurance comp as if you had a smash the chip could be found,

they both give about the same gains and wont break your engine, just make sure you go to a rep tuning company as a lot of peeps doing this on the side now and their software is not the real mcoy lol,

dont bother with these modules or tuning boxes as they are a waste of money and are normaly a resistor in a box,

gains on chips and remaps will be 25-40 bhp max

im having mine done today so looking forward to seeing what difference it will make

Hi, Thanks for the info on engine re-mapping, I could not get back in to my own mail to reply. I will look into re/mapping rather than chipping,

all the best,

Alistair.
