Default 790.00 BRAKE JOB?

My dealer, Inskip Motors in RI wanted 790.00 for a rear brake job. Thats the most insane thing I have ever heard. He was my solution.
I ordered rear Brembo rotors from International Auto parts 70.00 each, and a set of thier own brand pad with compound designed for heavier vehicles. These pads were 44.00.
I called a reputable brake shop, Covenrty Wheel and Brake. I explained I wanted him to install my hand picked parts, he agreed and said it was no problem. Total labor 70.00!
So for 254.00, I saved a huge amount of money.
The pads and rotors have 300 miles so far, minimal dust and no noise.
Don't be afraid to call several service people and ask for prices, the dealer pricing is just not acceptable.
Good Luck

Mercedes-Benz Of Hagerstown wanted $330 to put on new plug wires on my 560sel not including the price of wires. This is y dealers get bad names and lose customers.

My brakes need to be done as well, but I am too afraid to take it to the dealership. My dealership charges $100/hr just for the labor. Need to look around and try to find a better deal.

If you don't fee qualified to do it (pretty easy for a DIY'er), any independent shop should be able to handle it. It is very straightforward. Figure you will get charged an hour to change out rotors and pads per axle, assuming nothing is rusted on. No need for a dealer on this one.

My '01 ML needs both pads and rotors after 70,000 miles. On the surface it seems like an easy job but I just want to make sure I am not under estimating the job. Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, remove the rotor, reverse the process...

Can you guys confirm that I only need the rotors and pads to do the job? Are there any other parts for the ABS or other nuances to this job, such as other parts that should be replaced at the same time or special tools needed?

Thanks folks!

You'll probably need new wear sensors. Certainly if the brake worn indicator light is on--on the dash. They're just a couple of bucks for a packet of four. I think the front uses two per side and the rear uses one per side. You'll see where to install them in the pads when the wheels are off. Look for a wire coming out of the pads. No special tools out of the ordinary are needed as far as I know.

Thanks for the information. If I have the time, I will do this.

Now if I could only get a DIY on removing my door panels to remove the insulation and eliminate the adhesive gumming up my windows...
