2000 ML320 stalls while driving
My ML320 stalled after having lights come on dash. After about 30 minutes it started. Next morning it started and I drove it about 7 miles. I noticed that as I was parking the lights wer dimly on, but on. At one point the sound to the radio went out and there were no lights on the instrument panel. I parked and when I returned an hour or so later it started, but the check engine light came on and a few others intermittently. As I neared my exit I noticed that the entire panel lit up and I could feel it stalling. I coated down the exit and made the turn by pressing down on the gas, which did not make it go fast at all. It coasted until it got to a slight incline at the end of my block, and then stopped. I could not restart it, and it would not do anything. 2 days previous, after filling up I recall the battery light coming on and then going off (the battery is new), and shortly after a few small control panel light flickers. I checked all of the fuses, and changed one that was blown, but I know now that it was for the lighter. After changing the fuse the lights, radio, and a/c operated normally. All lights are off except Check engine, and the vehicle will not crank. It clicks and then nothing. I took the battery cable off to reset, but it did not change. I've spent the day reading and troubleshooting, and I hope this is the cps. I can't get the car to anyone to have codes read, and I am sure I deleted the previous ones.
Can anyone confirm that the CPS would do this as well?

This response is to Mr. Chassis:
I have the same problem with my ml430 truck stalling out. When I say stalling I mean I could be driving it will stall and give a beeping noise. Now I can still drive, but all the lights are on the dash board are light and the engine is still running. I get to a point where I can pull over and put the truck in park, turn it off, turn it on again and start driving again. This has been going on for some time and no one can seem to resolve the problem.
It's been to Mercedez and of course they say they don't know what it is but dont repair it, but right now, I can't afford a new truck. I've done all the other servicing they suggested but this problem continues.
The gear shift sensor has been replaced but I am not sure if it was done correctly. It doesn't give a code, but now the service engine light is on.
I read your post and you seem to know what you are talking about. Questions: Do you think its worth it to have the crank shift sensor replaced again? Is there a wire that comes with the cranks shift sensor that needs to be replaced also? What is the part number? ML430 2001.
Any thing you can tell me would be greatly appreciated.
I will check here tomorrow 8/29/11 and see if there was a response. If you email me, I will call.
Thanks

the dealer will have it on their computer. they need to run a VMI on your car and the engine will come up. if you can pull off the plug thats what you need to know,, 1 clip or 2 clips to relaese it and are the release clips on the short side or the long side of the connector. if you unplug it then youll know also.
