Default Reset ABS and ASR lights

The ABS and ASR lights on the dashboard came on after I made a left turn with light braking. It was a rainy and cold day. I have checked and cleaned all four ABS sensors because there were metal filings and dirtson them. The braking system is working but without ABS.

I would like the procedures to reset the ABS and ASR lights.

Does any one have the instructions to connect a OBDII reader to this vehicle? I don't seem to find the connector to connect my code reader to it.

Please help and thanks in advance.

If you are sure that everything is back to normal then, the best way to reset the
alarms is to remove the battery positive terminal for 24 hours. This will reset the
computer.

Abovemethod is suggested in the owners manualfor radio code reset if you get
locked out by putting an incorrect code un-intentionally.For radio reset it is 4 hours.

Try and let us know the results

All the best

Thanks for your reply.

Will this procedure reset all other memories as well?
If so, what else must I do after reset the computer back to default?

Is there another location to remove the (+) side of battery cable under the seat?

Yes it will reset all, you need to resyncronize the following and here are the procedure on how to.

Here is a comprehensive list of all items that need (or may need) to be synchronized after loss of power (i.e., battery disconnect):

Synchronizing Head Restraints:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery
disconnected or empty), the head restraints are no
longer adjusted automatically. To resynchronize the adjustment feature, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move the seat completely forward and the head restraint fully down, and hold respective buttons for approximately two seconds.

Synchronizing power windows:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery
disconnected or low), the windows cannot be opened or
closed by the Express feature. To resynchronize the express feature, press <close> side of power window switch to resistance point until the window is completely closed and hold for additional 2 seconds. Repeat procedure for each window. The automatic full opening and closing procedure of the windows should now be restored.

Synchronizing sliding/pop-up roof:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery
disconnected or low), or if the sliding/pop-up roof is blocked during closing/opening procedure, the system has to be synchronized. To do so, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move and hold switch in direction (3), until the sliding/pop-up roof is completely raised at rear, and
hold for additional 1 second.

Synchronizing ESP:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery
disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction
indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine
running. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. The BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp should go out.

Synchronizing remote control:

The remote control may have to be resynchronized, if
the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked. To synchronize insert electronic key in steering lock.
The remote control should once again be operational.Take care & enjoy the ride,JOE55

Hi Joe55...

Many thanks for your assistance!

I disconnected the battery cable (-) for 24 hrs and I did the resynch.
The ABS and ASR lights remained lid.

What else can I check?
Should I replace brake lamp switch? Where can I find it?

You're welcome, when was the last time you change your battery? if the battery voltage was dropping down under 10 volts at times which is the threshold for the ESP/BAS system according to the Owners Manual. So double check your battery first before replacing the brake lamp switch btw, it's located above the pedal at the back.

Take care and enjoy the ride,

I replaced the battery about 2 years ago. I will check its voltage again just in case.
Also, I will replace the brake light switch anyway as I am not when it was replaced the last time.

Hi Joe55,

I found the problem. It is the brake light switch. I replaced it few days ago before checking the battery voltage and it worked. Although I was able to repair the old switch, I put in the new one for peace of mind.

Thanks for your help in this email threads. GOOD MAN!

By the way, do you have service procedures for removing the valve cover?
I want to replace the plastic oiling tube since I have tapping noise occasionally from the engine.
