1994 SL500 ABS and ASR lights
When I drive the ABS (Antilock Brake System) and ASR (Acceleration Slip Control) warning lights come on. The only way to clear them is to disconnect the battery and clear the computer. I have removed the front wheel ABS sensors and cleaned them but the light comes back on after a few minutes/hours, usually in a turn. I have not cleaned the rear sensors. According to the owner's manual, the ASR just affects the rear wheels. Both systems appear to operate when there is a "slippage" detected, either a brake lockup or a spinning drive wheel.
1. Has anyone else had this problem? 2. How are these two systems/lights related/connected? 3. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for these systems?
Thanks in advanced!

1994 SL500 ABS and ASR lights
I had hoped that I'd get some response to my question but as I didn't, I researched the forum for any insight and came to the conclusion that it might be the "brake light switch." I am lucky that in my little WV mountain town of 800 that a recent retiree would have been a certified MB mechanic for 35 years. We have chatted in the past and he concurred that the brake light switch was where the ABS and ASR came together. I got the part from NAPA for $19 and put it in. For the past 4 days I haven't gotten any caution lights and feel that the problem is fixed.
Last week I also replaced the distributor caps and rotors ($180). The car would start right up but if I drove it for sometime, it would be hard to start and/or backfire. On inspection of the old parts, you could see microscopic cracks and pitting. Changing these parts solved the engine problems.
The SL500 now runs and operates like it was designed to do.
Great forum when you dig deep into the past and find some pearls of information.
