I have an 87 260e and the door locks no longer work. They have always worked fine before, but one day they just stopped. When I press down on the driver side door lock, I can hear the motors in all the doors trying to work, but the locks don't move at all. I also checked the fuses and they are fine. Any suggestions? I don't think the door motors in every door could go bad all at the same time.

 

you either have a bad connection going to your vacuum pump or a leak in the system, both are common problems with the locking system on these cars. Should be easy to find. Keep us updated on your findings.

 

Actually, I was describing in an earlier post that my engine compartment caught on fire and a tube which had air coming out of it had been melted. Would this be the vacuum pump? I taped it up at first, but it must be leaking again.</P>


Could you let me know if this would be the vacuum pump and what I should use in order to mend the leak. I was thinking about cutting the line, but I don't know what to use in order to connect the 2 pieces together again air-tight.</P>

 

Look under your drivers seat, that's typically where the vacuum pumps are located. I have no idea what the vacuum line is your talking about under the hood, but if it's leaking you can buy new vacuum hose and the slip connections at most any auto parts store.

 

Well, I seem to have fixed the problem, except for one minor thing. I found the vacuum pump, or whatever the device is that controls the locks, but it was under the rear right hand seat, protected by a foam insulation pad. It seems that the vaccum hose running out of it to the locks had slipped off the unit. I put it back in place, and presto, everything worked fine.</P>


The locks all lock/unlock automatically when I use the drivers side **** from the inside, but now the **** from the passenger side does nothing. It used to work, but now, it just doesn't seem to trigger the automatic locks anymore. Do you know what this could be caused from?</P>

 

I've never heard of the passenger side door lock controling all of the locks. Just the drivers door so I'm not sure what to tell you. It sounds like your system is working properly now.
