Interior Temp Guage - Flaky Readout
The digital temperature guage on my 94 E420's dash has always displayed what appears to be an inaccurate temperature -- always +37 F when I fire her up most mornings, which can't be true (I live in temperate California), and seems to hover around this number as the day goes on. On rather "cold" mornings (by CA standards), it may read as +28 F or such as I drive along. On "hot" days when she's been sitting in the sun, the gauge will display +75 F or +80 F, and then drop back to +60 F or so as I drive along and the AC kicks in.
About two weeks ago, the display would flicker when I fired her up in the mornings, then just fade out, then perhaps come back. It did this for a few days, then returned to its "normal" behavior and has not repeated the flickering since.
I checked the owners manual and it says that the sensor for the internal temperature guage is under the front bumper...could something have been clogging it causing the flickering? Does this sensor simply wear out over time or need resetting?
Any ideas on these types of behavior?
Thanks!

that temperature sensor is just a resistor which changes the value according to the temperature.
maybe what you need is to check it's resistance compared to the actual value that it is suppose to show.
if you can do it, i can send you the comparison table.
