electric fan on e220

electric fan on e220
hi fellas,
Just taken my e220 out for a quick spin and as soon as i started the car the electric fan kicked in and isnt cutting out untill the car is turned off, the engine was cold before starting it up so that rules out the engine being hot, does any one have any ideas why the fan should be cutting in when the car is running cold.
