to stagger or not to stagger?
I have a 2003 CLK 500 aI have bought a set of 19" x 8.5" rims.I am getting mixed information on the tire sizes that should be mounted. I have been told to stagger them by one shop andnot by another. I can still return 2 if I have to in order to stagger them. Is there any reason that they should or shouldn't be staggered?
Thanks in advance!

Well, they will tell you if the tires are the same, you can "rotate them".
Personally, I check my tires often enough to correct any weird tire-wear", and correct any alignment or camber adjustments, so they wear evenly without rotation. And I went with the Michelline Pilote Sporte A/S's (treadwear 400) which are holding up great. So my advice would be to get what you want, but you know that any tire with less than 320 treadwear is going to wear quickly.

No reason why you shouldn't stagger them. Wider tires in the rear will give you better traction and handling.
If you look at the wheel sizes on the factory tires, the rear wheel is actually taller than the front by one size. ie: depending on the size of your rims, if the front is 35 the rear will be 40. I do not believe you can rotate them anyways.

I got a 2004 clk 500 and i use 235/30/19 for the front and 285/30/19 in the back. the back use to rub until i got a new set and the dunlops didnt the bridgestones did and they get burned off fast, i use then for about 15000 and i need a new set, in the rear already but if u want to be on the safe side then go ahead and use 275/30/19 in the rear cause u will def feel the difference and the esp wont play around as much if u get a non stagg set
good luck
