I'm in the same boat as you pal!

I posted this qustion mistakenly on the general board. Perhaps we can get someone to help us out!!

My original question

Hello all,

Great forum, some interesting stuff here! I've read my manual back and forth and cannot find out where the dipstick tube is located on my CLK500A 2005 model. I purchased a topsider oil vacuum and a fleece filter and wanted to do my own oil change. To use the topsider, you have to insert a tube down the neck of the metal dipstick tube. Only problem is there is no dipstick anywhere in site. There's a red cap attached to a tube towards the rear of the engine. I was told bya few that this is the way in, but wanted to be 100% sure before attempting this as several folks have said this was for tranny fluid.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Also how do I get the second half of the engine cover off? I want to change the air filters as well.

Thanks
Nicky

well i figured how to access the air filter first off you mist remove the front plastic panell on the top of the engine this is easy
next you will see the air intake tube its plastic , note in the middle it has like a flexible piece pull it back !!! and it disconecs do this on both sides as there is two air intake tubes now ....... note there is two metal clips that are attached to two rubber studs attached to the intake manifild look closley and study it remember the germans are humans as we are too and it has to be designed to be worked on pull these metal clips up and the second half of the plastic cover comes off , i am going to pay a independ shop here in los angeles to show me how to change the oil there is a red tube on the back thisis for transmission fluid for sure ,
the engine oil ive heard has a plate that must be removed and a vacum pump with a tube is inserted to suck out the old oil , but ill keep you posted ,
im a good mechanic and this car is a real challenge for me but also fun to see how germand think there smart let meell you !!!!!!

u must take out the three covers on the bottom, there are 8 bolts that hold the cover upto the car, then its right in front of the trans cover, the bolt is right there on the side.
