Default tips for prospective buyer?

I'm looking for a used C-class, probably C240 and above. Are there any tips for someone new to MB? Anything or year I should avoid? Thanks a bunch!

Could you please tell us what are the problems with the 2001 C-class?
Thanks.

I would buy a C200 Kompressor over a C240. The C200K is lighter on juice, cheaper to maintain and has less problems. I don't know why they bothered bringing out the C240 when the C200K is such a fantasitc car

Year 2001 is the first year after a facelift from W202.
They had most issues in 2001 models, less in 2002, lesser in 2003, etc...
There are higher chances of encountering issues with 2001 model...
The type of problem varies a lot...

The 2001 C240 is plague with electrical problems. I recommend going to a web site like Edmunds

However, in 1999 MB built a fairly reliable C car. I've read that over the last 10 years, the 1999 C-class has been one of MB's most reliable builds. Not to say you won't find someone who has had absolutly no probs with a 2001, but they were not as reliable, on the whole, as the previous body style they replaced.
Owners tend to agree. In the Edmunds consumer ratings, the 1999 C280 receives a 9.2 out of 10 for satisfactioin, while the 2001 C240 receives a 7.5 out of 10.

Well, mine is a 2001 C320, and when you read all the reviews the Mechanical reliability of the 2001 C Class is much better than 2002, 2003 and 2004.

My 3.2 Litre V6 220bhp UK Model is awsome inside and out. Much better than the Brand New SAAB 95 2.3Turbo I had given me by the company earlier this year!

and my Baby Benz has 115k miles on the clock now, only thing its ever needed is brakes, and a couple of suspension bushes.

Just thought I'd share this with you all.
