Default Revs will not go beyond 3000rpm

I hope someone can shed some light. I have a 2002 C220 CDI (manual) . The engine will not rev beyond 3000 in any gear. Sometimes and this is rare, it might just go beyond 3000rpm and drive normally for a few moments then return to the fault. I have the car regulary serviced. When in sixth gear it wont go beyond 85mph.

Thank you

Sounds too me in LIMP HOME MODE. Is the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on? Check the codes and troubleshoot.

take care,

Thanks for you reply. No, there are no warning lights or anything of that kind. It drives ok, but it just seems the turbo doesn't kick in. However much I put my foot on the accelerator it justs seems stop at 3000rpm.

How many miles on the car? When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Some diesels build up carbon/soot in their intake ports if they have not been run hard and hot enough periodically. Have you tried a fuel system cleaner specific to diesel engines? I'm old school and am suspecting filter(s) and ports.Best of luck. Will
