I am a 2003 C230 Coupe, just got it. This startled me while driving , I thought a TRUCK was beeping me the horn... Noooo it was the sunroof wind noise, ...is that normal?

Gosh it sounds like a scary low and LOOOOUD pitch at 45 mph and up.

does the wind deflector go up when you open the sunroof?

 

It did horror me!

Yep, the wind deflector goes up fine and when looking at it while car is parked all looks normal. Noise dissapears when the wind deflector goes down a bit (while closing the roof).

Boy that was scary, and almost embarrasing when having a ride... You've got to shout over the noise!!

the tension of the wind deflector is not good then.

anyway, just close it at more than 45Mph and use the pop-up instead.

 

Try to fix the rubber molding in front of deflector by hand.
I had same problem and got fixed.
I'm not sure it will work or not...
It sounds like a motor cycle right?

 

Yes it sounds exactly like a motorcycle, why I didn't think of that comparison!

There are deflectors you can buy that mount around the front of the moonroof, cut noise way down at highwy speed, no drilling required, mounts to screws on the inside of the sunroof frame. Work well, but I took it off as I didn't like the look. I got mine from my dealer, $50.00 with discount, but when they mounted it it was bowed in the middle. They agreed that wasn't correct and they ordered another one. The following week I went down and had the new one installed, same bow in the replacement. But the week I drove around with the original one, it worked well. I finally decided I didn't like to bow look and the dealer couldnn't figure out why it bowed. So I got my money back.

 

Yep, I am at the dealer right now, ...apparently this noise is one of the things that come with the car, I thought of the deflector Allan suggests but I realize that in the coupe model the front section of the roof raises automatically while the sunroof slides back, so I don't think I can place another one on top of the moving one.

The service advisor said they can try playing with it a bit and see if there is any luck, but not to expect major changes. As we speak my car is in being pampered by the Benz gurus.

Well, I guess I'll sing loud while I cruise the Washington beltway with my sunroof open at freezing temperatures and the heat pumped all the way up. I am totally in love with this car and the noise will not break my heart.
