Just found another issue with my ML. when I open the sunroof, what I assume to be the wind deflector just sits in the frame. On close inspection there is absolutley nothing attaching the deflector to anything! Obviously there are bits missing from the mechanism. My question is, are these attaching pieces easy to come by in Australia?, or would I be better just removing the metal deflector all together from the car?

you can remove it but then you get a loud wind noise while driving. but the install is fairly easy and the part is about 100 US dollars.

Turns out I need to buy the whole deflector assembly again (AUS$164) thanks for the advice guys time to start saving

 

Unless you go with the cheeper OEM plastic wind deflector for $70 that is accessory add on over your broken one and it will cover about quarter of the roof opening but makes it nice and quiet.
