Everytime i start my c180 coupe 2002 i get a annoying knocking sound (not very loud but enough for passengers to hear) from behind my dashboard for about 20secs then it goes what could this be? could somebody help as this is my first time joining a forum thanks

I got the the same problem in my C200 Kompressor. Ive decided to live with it as it doesnt effect the car. MB wanted £700 bucks to remove the dash and sort it.

I dont beleive its worth spending the money. I might get a quote from an MB speciallist, because the noise does bug me.

 

hi i had a similar problem with my c180 but it wasent behind the dash it was in the controll bit for the sunroof but when it knocks it sounds as if it comes from the dash its just the wiring lome bashing against the roof if its the same kind of knock as mine or it could be comming from the bulk head somthing could be lose eg wiring lome etc check this first befor you pull ot any money

 

no shouldnt cause any problems more anoying than any thing else

 

I had this problem on mine too. I still do, but it's actually not a problem according to a local mercedes shop in town. It was the car recycling either exhaust or fuel when at idol...cant remember which. Ask a local mech for piece of mind, but I'm pretty sure we are talking about the same noise.

 

Hello there Deege, my old lady had the same problem in her 2003 c180k it was for the initial 15-20secs post start up then nothing. My parents took it to the merc dealer and they said it was some sort of sprocket to do with the air-con system. So they got it repired $2300 AUD later ther is no sound or knocking. So your going to have to ask yourslef is the noise that annoying. The cost is so high due to the requirement of the dash bein pulled out.
