I going to stick with 93, (91 is the mim for my V6) as for the past 2 years plus, the car has run much better then when I bought it. I don't know what the prior owner used for gas, but after I got it; I had Mercedes reprogram the tranny back to default and I got it shifting the way I liked and started using 93 octane and withing a couple of weeks the engine ran and still runs as smooth as a baby backside. One other point, I am partially handicapped and don't drive that much and I firmly believe using the 93 has helped the car stay "tuned" and run well.

 

Lugnut, Should I continue with 93 as the manual says minimum 91 octane? What do you think about the stalling problem that I wrote previously? Can it be from the 93 octane that I am using?

Lugnut, What about the stalling problem can it be from the 93 octane BP? the morning when the engine is cold the car stalls at low rpms. It does not lose power but spudders (shakes terribly) unless you push the pedal and take it to higher rpms

Yes, use 93 octane where you live. Without checking your profile or asking you directly, I assume you live close to sea level. As you gain altitude and the air thins you'll find that 93 octane is impossible to find. Go high enough and 91 octane will become difficult to find. That's why MB and other manufacturers say 91 octane when they mean premium, or the highest grade available.

Always buy the highest grade available for your car.

It's not the 93 octane per se that's causing hesitation. It could possibly be a bad batch of gas. If you've already run more than one tank with the same hesitation or you've switched to a different gas station and filled up without any difference, then it's not the gas. I'd get sleepwalker to help you debug it. Could be a lot of different things.

 

Hey guys, I took the car to the highway today and the trip computer showed that the consumption was 7.5lt/100km, 32 mpg which is normal according to the manual. Should I trust what the trip computer is showing? Or should empty some of the tank in the highway and refuel in order to calculate the mileage myself?

I'm sure if you checked the mileage the old way it would be different, but the trip computer is probably very close. Close enough unless you just have to know more precisely.

Actually I am a highway person as I am from Europe. But everything I do here is in the city so I became a city driver in USA.

 

I think the MBs deserve Premium gas.

My 1962 MB180, 1979 MB200 carb and 2002 C200 all run well with premium unleaded gas in Malaysia.
