It had been a while since the fuel filters were changed on my 90 300D. Went from 25 to 32mpg.

Do you have a locking gas lid? Make sure it locks.

Put paper under the car, front and back. I suspect the fuel lines under the tank or the injector return lines are leaking badly.

Assuming there is no theft and no leaks and the car is running normally, then watch the odometer. It's probably not tracking mileage correctly. I havehad them stop working for weeks and then come back to life but the recording was never correct.

Were the valves tight or loose? Was it intake or exhaust?
