Fuel consumption up Power down
My 2002 W203 C200Seems to have lost power and the fuel consumption has gone up from 7.2 l/100km to 9.3 l/100km
for highway driving. I have checked tha MAS and it clean appears to be perfect.
What could be the cause?
Also when I start the car in the morning when the engine is cold (ambient temp about 26 C, there is a rough noise from someshere at the tail end of the exhaust. It goes off once I rev up the engine a little and release.
Thank you.
Shan.

RE: Fuel consumption up Power down
Yes, I was going to say check the catalytic converter.
Rattling noises in the area of the exhaust, decreased ability to rev past a certain point, power loss, etc. are all symptoms of a cat going bad or gone bad.....the substrate inside the cat breaks up and rattles......it can cause a variety of problems.
Worth checking anyway. If that's not it, oh well........go to Plan B. You know what Plan B is, don't you?

The car has been with me since new.
I have done 53K km so far.
How do I check the CAT?
Can I do it myself or do I have to go to the dealership?
Any diagrams pictures w0uld be helpful.
Thanks guys.
