Default C230 Alarm Woes

Hi Guys,

I come here in desperation. I've just bought a late '95 C230 Kompressor Sport, its my secondMB, the first was a 190E which was a fantastic car, in which I hope the C-class would follow. However, from the first day of ownership, I've been having trouble will the alarm/immobiliser. It all seemed to start when the batteries ran flat in the infra red key on the first day, and I had to leave to car overnight in the centre of town, and get a lift home, as I couldn't de-activate the immobiliser. After replacing the batteries in the key, I re-sycronised the system and all was for a couple of days, after whichthe car would lock, but both red and green lights on the mirror would flash simultaneosly, as would the green LED in the door handle. It takes several attempts of setting/unsetting to get the alarm to work and either unset or set, which has made me late for work three times this week already. After fiddling about with the courtesy switches on the doors/boot today, they're was a slight improvement, beforethe situationworsened again. I also tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours, in the hope that the system would reset its self....any ideas before I bequith all my money to the local MB dealership.

One last query; where is the bonnet (hood) alarm switch located on the C-class, or is it integrated into the latch mechanism?

By the way I've spoken to the last owner and hes say hand on heart that he's had no previous problems with the alarmsystem.

Thanks in advance,

Default C230 Alarm Woes

Are you sure your C230 isn't a 99 not a 95? Anyhow your choices are limited because it will take a Mercedes scan tool to identify which sensor is causing your alarm woes. Sorry man but you've got to go to the stealership for this one!!!

Thanks Dale,

The cars actually a late 1995 C230 Kompressor Sport manual , I'm not sure if MB exported many, I'm told its quite a rare car.

As to the Alarm, I messed around with the key tonight, and it seems to be working much better now, so I'm thinking the system may be fine, and the key may be at fault. I've also just discovered that if you keep you're finger on the remote when opening the windows roll down until you take your finger off, and vice versa when locking, rolling the windows up.

As to the "stealership" as you call them, I've already had a disagreement with them, due to the fact that theyrefused order me aduplicate key from MB, as I'd just bought the car and even though I had my passport, drivers lincense, the car's key and all the documentation, the cars V5registration document wasn't in my name, but then it wouldn't be as I've only had the car 7 days. This was contrary to what one of the parts guys told me on the phone. To be honest, I'm not too impressed with MB dealers at the moment, I get much, much better service from my local Ford dealer, when buying parts/servicing for my wife's car.

Final question, is the red transmittorpart of the key supposed to light up when the button is depressed?

Cheers,

Default C230 Alarm Woes

Hello! I can answer that last qn! The "red transmitter" is not meant to light up when you're normally opening/closing the car. It is actually a cunning little battery check for your key. If you press the button for 3 seconds, the red light should flash once telling you the battery is fine (not very reliable, let me assure you, I've been late for college because of a dying battery which reported as "good"). Good luck with the "stealership" (gotta remember that name!) They refused to order me a spare of the spare key for my car (how ironic). So now im stuck with just the two remotes. Oh well.
