Ok folks, 3 hours of browsing the forums, no results for my exact problem.

I have a 2004 c230 with no priors. At random times the alarm goes off. The siren works just fine, and so do the light systems. There is no reason that I can tell for the alarm to go off, ive tried parking on hills and flat areas, dry and rain double tapping the arm button. It all goes off. Now here is the odd part. When I disconnect the battery, the alarm does not go off under any circumstances.

So what I suppose i am looking for are things to try, or things to avoid. I am trying to avoid any expense in initial diagnosing as I am broke.

I have not:
I have not taken it to the dealer to plug it up to the star system.



I plan on:
I will check the hood and door sensors to try to get see about faulty connections.
I will check the fuses for blow/faulty connections.
Last free resort - disable the siren behind the passenger tire.


Anyone have some things to try or not to try?
