I have a 2002 C320 sedan with an after-market tint job.</P>


In the last year, my tint has developed long, vertical scratches on all 4 windows. Some are deeper then others, and the lengths vary. All windows have them in different places, and it looks pretty junky.</P>


I'm positive that I've seen similar streaks on the windows of loaner C-classes that I've had, and when I asked my service advisor about it, he said that "all Mercedes get those scratches on the tint." I asked him to check inside the door panels for anything that could be scratching the tint, and the service report said that no dirt was found inside the window panels and that I should contact the company that did my tint.</P>


I have a strong feeling that this problem is with the car -- not the tint itself. I've had window regulators changed on each of the front doors (twice for the passenger side) and once on one of the back doors. I don't even know what a window regulator is/does, but could it be somehow related to my problem?</P>


Has anybody else experienced these long scratches on their tint or does anyone have ideas as to what is causing them in mine?</P>

wow i have a 2001 with the same exact problem. they said the same thing. i took it to the window tint place and the said something is wrong with the glass... what's the deal here and why does MB warranty truly suck!</P>

Brian, windows regulators roll the windows up and down. Its kinda like a pulley system. I have a 94 S class and have had to replace them at least once. Its really easy if your a "handyperson" and know basic car repair. The scratches are from the velvet type material that is at the bottum of the window on the inside of the door. If you look right where the window starts going in to the door, you'll see what I'm talking about. But maybe you should take it back to where yo had them tinted and see if they can retint. T</P>

 

I have a 1 year old SLK and have the same problem. I thought it was beach sand since I live in Florida but maybe not... I've had several Corvettes in the past and only experienced this problem once or twice. Never bad just enough to notice. With the SLK it's like you describe it. Some are deeper than others. It's getting to the point of annoying and I'm considering having the tint replaced.
