M117 - Starting Motor after Sitting for 6 Years
Hello,
I have a 1979 450SLC, M117 with 87K original miles. It was a running car which I drove to its present parking spot, 6 years ago. Never intended to let it sit, but it did.
I am getting ready to start it back up. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this sort of thing.
My main concern is whether it's worth it to add oil or solvent to the cylinders. The alternative is to spin the motor with the spark plugs removed. If adding oil, what method works for the very hard to reach plug ports of the M117 ...snugged into the cramped motor compartment of the 107?
I will of course drain the old fuel. I plan to:
1) drain all I can before the FP
2) and then to add fresh fuel
2a) change the fuel filter
3) disconnect the supply before the fuel distributor and
4) use new fuel to purge the line, then
5) reconnect FD supply and disconnect all FD-to injector, cold start, and pressure reg valve, and
6) use new fuel to purge the "final delivery" lines.
7) reconnect and be ready to start ?
Is this a decent approach? Am I overlooking anything? Thanks to all for your comments and guidance!
