Help! Is this normal?
Had to use the key to open the door this morning on my C230. Alarm went off, put the key in the ignition, car wouldn't start "REMOVE KEY" message appeared. "TURN OFF LIGHTS" message appeared. Okay, so lights must have been left on. Started the car w/ battery charger. Drove on the highway about an hour and once I came to a stop the car started running funny, real jumpy. The car wouldn't drive over about 20mph and was jumpy (like it was a standard and not being driven right). Turned the car off and back on. Drove fine for another hour, did the same thing. Is this normal? Now the message reads "ESP, malfunction visit shop". What next?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Hi,
Likely you have dropped into "get you home" LIMP mode. This occurs if the Engine Management System EMS detect certain conditions which threaten emmissions compliance.
Is the yellow Check Engine Light ON. I would expect that it is. If so you need to get the codes read to find out what is going on. I suspect that following your flat battery event the engine has hic-cupped a few times and the EMS has detected a misfire which puts the light ON and envokes LIMP.
