door knob came off/ how to repair?

door **** came off/ how to repair?
Maybe someone can give me some ideas on this.
Today the passenger side door **** locking piece that goes up and down as the doors are unlocked and locked came off.
Now the door is locked and I cannot get the door open to even get in the passenger side seat. Even when I press the automatic door open/lock button, that door will not unlock. (The others will unlock and work fine.)
It looks like it came unscrewed but will the entire door need to be taken apart?
Is there something that I need to take up to the dealer? It is a 4 door C240 2002 year.
It just is annoying right now that I cannot even open the passenger door at all.
Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you.

RE: door **** came off/ how to repair?
The plastic **** is just screwed on to a short metal rod from the lock mechanism.
Press the key to lock all doors.
See if you can locate the metal rod through the hole. You may need to use a torchlight.
If you can locate it, use a long pin or a thin screwdriver (the type used for mending watches & specs) to centre the rod to the hole.
Press the key to unlock all the doors. The metal rod would have move up the hole far enough
for you to screw in the plastic **** from the outside.
The other alternative is to open the door panel and fix it.
