Thinking about buying one for around 12,000. WIll is still be reliable? What kind of trouble will i run into in the future and will it be a pain?

The reliablity at this stage is entirely determined by the way the previous owners treated the car.

If the car is in top shape, has had a good home, has some type of service record, needs no current repairs, No smoke, No leaks, No skipping, has good tires, good carpets, and good paint, you could assume that the vehicle has been taken care of well, and cold easily last another 130k with maybe one or tworepairs.

If the car has been used hard, neglected, penny-pinched, has a filthy engine, gone without repairs, has had an owner that could not or would not afford to care properly for the car, it could be near death now.

The price is fair, but do not be tricked by a recent wax job, and steam-clean. You need to get a real feel for the way the car has been treated. Good ones are out there; I want you to pick a good one.

Just food for thought the last MB I had before my current 2001 was a 1991 420 SEL, bought it when it was nine years old with 91,000 miles. paid 6,000.00 for it. The original owner had neglected it as did I. I traded it last spring on the '01 with 283,000... Only repairs - Fuel pump relay at approx. 150,000, used transmission (800.00 installed) at 189,000, a little welding on the exhaust system at 220,000 very little body rust problems(pass side quarter panel)...Sold it for 2,500...pretty cheap driving...My '01 w/79,000 current miles has been impecably maintained by Motorwerks MB in the Chicago area. Fighting rust already on the rockers, fenders, roof and both quarter panels and has a intermittant cold start miss that no one so far can figure out...So the moral of the story is perfect maintainence records while generally a good thing don't insure anything...A used car is a used car, it could turn out to be the best car you have ever owned or you could be buying someone elses problems...Just be ready to reconcile that in your mind either way the mop flops....
