Hi all.. 1988 420sel that is burning oil.. 114000 miles. At times smoke can be seen and smelled coming from under the car.. Any suggestions???

 

more than likely it needs new valve guide seals. A common problem!!

 

I may have answered your question wrong now that I've re-read it. Is oil leaking out your valve covers and dripping down on your exhaust or is it coming from your tailpipe??? If it's blowing the blue smoke out the tailpipe then valve guide seals would be a good place to start but if it's just blowing out from the underside of the car and soaking your engine down then I would suspect the valve cover seals.

depends on what needs to be repaired. Is it your valve covers that's leaking?
