Default is this normal?

started tearing into my 74 240d today, getting that rebuild done. i opened up the air filter box and took out the filter, and there's about an inch of oil standing in the bottom of the filter box. im guessing this is an oil bath filter model?

i saw some when i was in saudi arabia before.

not only MB but other brands too such as toyota, nissan, volvo, etc.

his car is not USA version but Europe.

the filter is especially for dusty road.

his car is 115.117, an old model.
