NO REVERSE. new transmission needed in '81 300d???
Hello all,
My 1981 300d won't go in reverse anymore. It just happened two days ago. Do I need to replace the transmission or is there anything else I should check first? I heard something about a torque control or something like that... any ideas? How much for a used transmission in this model?
Thanks,

RE: NO REVERSE. new transmission needed in '81 300d???
Anyone know anything about the B3 band, seal, or piston a 1981 300d? In the tranny is the reverse gear in the front or back on the 1981 300d models? is it possible to replace it without taking the tranny all the way out, just lowering it down? what about tightening the external adjustment bolt and lock for the B3 band. is it on the side of the tranny, passenger side? is tranny fluid over filled an issue?
any other ideas, advice, thoughts on the amount of time to fix this would be greatly valued.

Automatic or manual transmission? If its an automatic, try changing the tranny filter and fluid, and see what happens. There is also a small solenoid on the side, or near the transmission that might have gone bad. It happens on some of these electronic shift engines and such. If you can locate the solenoid, try replacing it and see if that doesn't happen. Usually, it is on the drivers side of the transmission located near the bellhousing. Sometimes its located near the rear of the transmission as well.
