Default grinding noise when in reverse and transmission issue

I just purchased a pre-owned 2006 E500 and have noticed several issues. When the car is cold and have the car in reverse and cut the front wheel to the right or left, I experience an unusual slippage and dull grinding noise coming from the front wheels. Has anyone experienced anything similar? The dealer believes the tires are slipping when I cut the wheel and thats whats causing the noise.

In addition, I have also had the experience of putting the shift lever in drive yet the car just revs the rpms when i give it the gas. Has anyone else had a similar

Default clunking noise from front of E500

Mars, thanks for the interest. But I am not sure why... my 2006 E500 came with the sport package, and 18" wheels. The noise only occur when the car is initially started i.e. cold, when in reverse and when i turn the wheels nearly all the way to the right or left.

probably u need to change one or both control arm bushing(s). when u reverse your car then the wheel(s) can move forward and maybe can reach your plastic cover that are around your tires. if u don't see any mark on them then just simply check your power steering fluid level. maybe just low...
