Default Power steering fluid change

Changing the ps fluid and filter on my 300D. Looking at diesel giant they mention to replace it with ATF Dexron fluid. There are a few different types of Dexron. I assume you can't use a synethic ps fluid. Any help would be great.

Use the Dexron designed for a 78 Chevy. Being a 78 Mercedes the fluid criteria was the same as the then current GM products.

Well that helped and did not help. I looked at a Hampton book and found that Dexron II was the proper one to use. They don't make a Dexron II anymore, but they make one thats called a ATF/MERC DEX, which if you read the back of the bottle, it is for Dexron I and Dexron II, plus the II (E). Advance Auto Parts did not have it, but found it at the CarQuest.

Changed it all out and went well. The filter and fluid were quite filthy.

I'm contemplating doing this same job on my 87 300d, the power steering (or front end i should say) makes a heavy whirring sound when going really slow and cranking heavy turns.

Was this a very hard procedure for you guys? Is there alotta bleeding or crazy hidden bolts involved? I guess I just need to get out the manuals and start searching. [&:]

Ok so the manuals just say unscrew, remove cap and remove fluid with turkey baster and remove and replace filter. No serious bleeding or hassle to get back up and running it sounds like so I'm gonna go ahead and attempt this.

Will update with results
