Frost on the windshield this am in Atlanta. It caught me unawares and thank goodness traffic was a bit on the light side today. I had no heat to defrost the windshield. The temperature gauge needle didnt pass the mark between 100 and 175 as I was 65-70mph, until I got off the highway. After getting off and stopping for a light the gauge needle creeped up to almost 175.

Does anyone know what the unnumbered marks are on the gauge?
I see 100, mark, 175, mark, 250. These are not evenly spaced.

I dont think the thermostat is closing. What temperature should the thermostat open?

Any other suggestions? Water level is good, no leaks, new radiator cap.
