Default changing power steering belt

I've loosened the two bolts (one "fixed pin" and one "sliding lock pin") mounting the power steering pump to the bracket but the pump will not slide downward to allow the new belt to slide onto the pulley. Is there a 'trick' to getting the power steering belt on, or do the bolts need to be completely removed? It's an 85 300D turbo.

Default RE: changing power steering belt

In case anyone is interested, I figured it out. There are three bolts (at first I didn't see the top bolt) holding the pump onto the bracket, two on the passenger side and one slider on the driver side. The top on the passenger side is the "pivot" bolt and the bottom is another slider. You must also loosen a fourth (verticle) bolt on the driver side that screws into the pump, not into the bracket like the horizontal bolts. It pulls the pump up to tighten the drive belt, after you loosen it then the pump will slide down. After putting on the drive belt you tighten the fourth (verticle) bolt to lift the pump up and take out the slack in the drive belt. Last you tighten the horizontal bolts to secure the pump in place.

Default RE: changing power steering belt

Good info! Thanks for posting it. I need to change all of the belts on Bruno, my old 300D T and since I'm not a born mechanic, I'm dreading it...
