Default 300TD, wagon, 1987

Hi you mercedes lovers, just found out about this site and really appreciate it. I commend all sponsors for this opportunity to read about other peoples cars and there problems and I have a couple questions I hope someone can help me with. My last mercedes was a 220d which I had for 11 yrs. and drove for 300,000 miles. I want to know if I can remove the fuel injectors wihout removing the glow plugs, which I seem to remember about the 220D. Also is it necessary to use a open end pipe wrench to take off the fuel line nut. I use to clean these in solvent and with the pointed end of a wooden small dowel rod. What is the procedure for cleaning the ones in the car, the engine is a OM602. Any help will be appreciated, Dick, PS, where is a good place to get a shop manual or CD withour paying an arm and leg, I am a retired senior, with limited income?

This must be a euro car?

The 87 300 TD imported to the US came only with the 6 cylinder OM603, and was the only W124 diesel wagon to the states! The OM602 is basically the same engine as the 603, less one cylinder. The fuel injectors come out with a 27mm, if memory serves, deep socket. You should be able to use a 14mm open end wrench to remove the injection tube nuts without problem. Glow plugs are seperate from the injectors and are not in any way connected to the injectors, so don't worry!

You are better off having a pro do the injectors. They will pop test and balance them after cleaning. If it is revealed that the nozzles are worn, don't opt for anything less than German made Bosch nozzles....The India made Bosch nozzles will be worse than your worn German nozzles!!!

There are free MB service manuals out there, I have just moved into a new PC and haven't retrieved all my links, but try a google search under SkinnerBoxSteaky, or Braingears....both offer free on-line MB manuals .

Hi

Is there possible to buy German Bosch nozzles??
In europe we get only Indian, Turkey, China etc. Bosch nozzles...
I have a diesel workshop here in Finland, and I use mostly nozzles made by Fratelli Bosio, they are very high quality.

I understand it is getting harder to find German Bosch injectors with German nozzles anywhere! You might try an MB dealership!

Many thanks Benzbob for the information, and agree the India injectors are junk! Will probably get them cleaned by the guy that sold me this car in Springfield, IL He is very good on all mercedes work, worked for a dealership for 25 yr. and now sells used units for himself, calls himself Dr. Bob.
