300TD, wagon, 1987
To adjust the idle on your 87 300TD, there is a black plastic **** affixed to the firewall in the area near where the brake booster, fuse box, and strut tower are. You will see printed on the **** the letters "ELR" and has numbers such as on a clock dial, 1 thru 7.
What you do is pull out the ****, then you will be able to turn the **** to a desired number, mine is set on 5 and my engine idles around 700 rpm, however, my idle is smooth and consistent, not really sure why your idle isn't?

Thanks Benzbob for the idle information, have searched my mercedes books and could not find any info., I will try the links you mentioned for better manuals, again, many thanks, steelerman.
