Default 240D Automatic transmission problems

Hello
I have a 1983 240D automatic with 350K miles It has been driving fine until i let it sit for about a week. Now it will not upshift. It wants to stay in first gear, If i play with the shifter from drive to neutral it will sometimes give me a hard shift to second but nothing after that. I checked the shifter bushings and they are ok. The vacuum pump is working .

Any suggestions?

I had a problem that it would not go into 3rd it stayed in second. One of the vacuum lines were messed up from oil it looked like. But check all the vacuum lines first.

Last night I was checking for vacuum leaks, Disconnected the vacuum modulator (VM) and found a split hose, Replace the hose then tested the VM, itwould not hold any vacuum. Started the engine and checked for vacuum at the engine side of the VM fitting. I had 26" of vacuum at idle. I hooked up the VM and tested the car. Everything shifted fine back to normal.
Soshould the VM be able to hold vacuum ?
