... use his car to gauge you as he catches up to give you a ticket
This is VASCAR for those who don't know. This is the same system they use from aircraft. They time how long it takes you to travel between two known points and calculate your average speed. By "known" I mean they know the distance between the two points.

A cop in a rolling car can start timing you from a known point, then speed off like he's after a donut, but park at the next known point and wait for you to drive by, record the time it took you to get there from the first point, then calculate your average speed. Sneaky buggers.

They are illegal in VA and DC. Legal everywhere else in the US.

Yeah, my ex got popped for using one when we were driving to FL from PA. They took it!

Glad you gotten out of your tickets. I'm usually not so lucky, but they never really throw the book at me.

it helps to know cops! if not i probably wouldnt have a license right now. i dont always drive fast but sometimes its just fun to put her in Sport Mode and let her fly. the only ticket i ever got was a traffic accident and they really didnt have a choice. it was only 49 dollars so i wasnt too worried about it. wasnt there, a while back, a radar company that said if you got a ticket they would pay for it? does anyone remember what company that was?

Most have offered to at one time or another. There are only two right now that offer to, I think, but I don't recall who they are right now. Rocky Mountain something-or-other and K40, maybe? I dunno for sure.
